Burr Walnut Campaign Chest Canteen Service / Collectors Cabinet
Burr Walnut Campaign Chest Canteen Service / Collectors Cabinet
An impressive late Victorian to 1910 Walnut & brass mounted campaign style canteen chest fitted with four graduated drawers, enclosed by a pair of fielded panel doors with original lock and key. The extensive though partial service of silver plated Fiddle, Thread, & Shell pattern flatware, comprising: twelve dessert forks; twelve table forks; twelve dessert spoons; twenty-two teaspoons; six egg spoons; twelve tablespoons; three sauce ladles; & eight soup spoons; together with various items of ivory-handled cutlery and silver plate flatware.
These canteen chests lend themselves very well for a change of function to collectors cabinets, stationary desk cabinets etc.
Condition: Although commensurate with age the chest is considered to be in very good order with some consistent fading to front & very hard to notice but lacking a small bead to bottom panel. Locking mechanism is strong and pulls door to a lovely snug fit. All drawers fit and run smoothly. Recessed brass campaign handles are substantial and beautifully crafted into the chest.
A gorgeous piece!
