Antique American Stick Back Open Arm Chair
Antique American Stick Back Open Arm Chair
A wonderfully striking American ebonised stick back open arm chair of fairly large proportions. Probably Boston, circa 1860 and very much in the manner of Lambert Hitchcock. This rare and decorative chair has all the hallmarks of a Hitchcock piece with original painted stencil work, evident to the shaped top rail and seat apron. Possibly the leading feature of the chair is the beautifully curved and swept substantial one piece hardwood seat from which the main components derive and flow from. Raised on its original brass castors this stand alone chair will compliment any setting and draw you in.
Condition: Wear Commensurate with age. Some losses to stencil work as to be expected . All the little dings and scars associated with a working chair of this age. Solid and fully functional. Overall a real gem.
