Antique Victorian Cast Iron Pub Tavern Table
Antique Victorian Cast Iron Pub Tavern Table
A lovely and rare example of a Victorian cast iron pub tavern table. The rarity, (apart from the aesthetics) is in its slightly smaller proportions as opposed to the later 20th century type which were broader and a little taller. That is what makes this table even more versatile.
The table base is formed of three legs, each with beautifully defined strong footings. At the top of each leg, the decoratively cast gilt/gold angel mask. These wonderfully patinated and characterful masks are much of what makes this table such an enviable piece. There is a tiered and ornamentally pierced cast scrollwork platform adjoined to all three legs. The mahogany top has been stripped back and finished in an Indian rosewood dye, then waxed and sealed in to retain its attraction.
The aesthetics here are matched by its versatility and function.
