Art Deco Gentlemans Compactum Wardrobe
Art Deco Gentlemans Compactum Wardrobe
Pure Art Deco!
A truly delightful Art Deco compactum wardrobe dating to the 1930s, constructed using solid hardwoods, walnut, oak and banded veneers. The craftsmanship and characteristics on show scream Art Deco of the purest form, displaying curved rocket edge framework, exquisite ball and pull formed handles, (bronzed wonderfully over time) along with a well shaped, substantial base which elevates it both in aesthetics and function.
The doors open up to reveal a neat slide out clothes rail, a vanity mirror, tie rack and trouser hanger. The left inner door has a bolt, both top and bottom which gives the option to keep closed. The right door retains its original lock and working key to keep the doors closed. A good sized single drawer features to the bottom. The main body sits snugly and deliberately into or onto the substantial base, which was cleverly constructed independently for ease of use and portability.
Condition: Wear commensurate with its age. Substantial for its size. Solid, robust and fully functional. Dings, dents or scars associated with a working piece of furniture from the 1930s (mostly at the side) are polished in. A very small area of old historic worm, confined at the rear of the top and always treated as a precautionary measure. A lovely overall aged patina with a good rich colour and grain.
Overall, an absolute real gem!
