Arts & Crafts Church Pew Bench
Arts & Crafts Church Pew Bench
A rare, striking and wonderfully executed oak church bench pew dating to the late Arts and Crafts period and into the early Art Deco years, circa 1920. The craftsmanship here is evident. Well proportioned and constructed in solid oak timbers with exceptional grain. The Softly curved, uncomplicated seat and gently sloping back with fielded panel are flanked by substantial uprights, each with well defined, carved and chamfered, turret like arched formations to the top. Further down geometric iron carrying handles and decorative numbered displays, 30 and 32 respectively. Each side also boosts a pair of well shaped and crafted geometric pillars that further enhance the piece. To the back, a very handy original bible or book rack can be found. To the foot of the bench beneath the seat lies a pair of authentic horizontal rails that can act as considerable shoe storage.
A stunning piece!
Condition: Dings, dents or scars associated with a working piece of furniture. End pillars altered very slightly at bottom, to accommodate church stone floor which is practically unnoticeable and doesn’t affect the bench in any way whatsoever.
